🛏️ How Does Someone Sleep Through These Terrible Killings?

Okay, let’s get into the elephant in the room. How does someone sleep through four people getting brutally stabbed in the middle of the night?

One of the surviving roommates, known in court documents as DM, gave a chilling eyewitness account. She said she was awakened by noises, possibly Kaylee Goncalves and her dog. DM reportedly heard a housemate say, “there’s someone here,” which police believe might’ve been Xana Kernodle. She opened her door more than once, heard crying coming from Xana’s room, and even heard a male voice say, “It’s okay; I’m going to help you.”

And then, plot twist: DM opens her door yet again and sees a masked man dressed in black walking past her. She didn’t recognize him. He slipped out through the sliding glass door. DM said she froze in shock and locked herself in her room, which she described as a “frozen shock phase.”

And look I get trauma and shock responses are real. I’m not here to victim-blame. But still… I find this incredibly hard to wrap my brain around! WHO goes back to their room after hearing crying and seeing a masked stranger in black wandering the hallway? Like, hello? Check on your friend? Call 911? Throw something? Scream? Or was she part of this? I’m not saying she was, but my suspicious brain is suspicious. These are the questions rattling around my true crime brain at 3 a.m.

🚨 “No Further Threat To The Community”? Come Again?

Remember how in the immediate aftermath of the murders, the Moscow Police Department told everyone there was “no further threat to the community”? Um… how did they know that? And why would they even say that when four people had just been slaughtered and they had NO suspect in custody? That was one of the biggest PR blunders of the whole case, if you ask me. People fled town in droves for Thanksgiving because nobody believed the police. And rightly so!

👮 The Investigation: 130 Cops and Still a Mess

To be fair, the investigation was massive. The Moscow Police Department led the charge, backed up by the Idaho State Police (ISP) and the FBI. Over 130 people were working this case. That’s a lot of badges and coffee cups.

And yet, so many parts of this investigation felt messy. It took them weeks to talk publicly about the white Hyundai Elantra. They had thousands of tips pouring in and yes, social media rumor mills made it worse but it still feels like they dropped the ball in many areas. And don’t get me started on the way people online were basically doing their own detective work because they didn’t trust the official narrative. The whole thing was chaos.

🔍 Kaylee Goncalves and the Stalker That Nobody Found

Kaylee Goncalves supposedly had a stalker. That rumor was all over TikTok and Reddit. Police said they investigated the claim and couldn’t confirm it. But if there really was a stalker, was it Bryan Kohberger all along? He was lurking on the victims’ Instagram accounts, sending DMs, and reportedly visited the restaurant where some of them worked. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?

🧤 Kohberger’s Kitchen Scene: Ziplock Baggie Mystery

So let’s talk about the arrest. When police swooped in on Bryan Kohberger in Pennsylvania, he was reportedly in the kitchen wearing examination gloves and putting trash into zip-lock baggies. That’s not your typical “taking out the garbage” routine, people.

What was in those bags? Evidence? Bloody clothes? Hair samples? His stash of receipts from late-night burger runs? Law enforcement said it was indicative of someone trying to hide or destroy evidence, but we still don’t have a clear inventory of what was in that trash. I NEED TO KNOW. This detail haunts me like the ghost of a canceled Netflix show.

And let’s not skip over this juicy nugget: When police searched Kohberger’s family home, they reportedly found a knife, a pistol, a black face mask, and ID cards hidden inside a glove in a box. Um, whose ID cards? The victims’? Random people’s? Did he keep souvenirs like some sick trophy collector?
