Trans Rights Under Fire — and Still Rising

THE QUEER RESISTANCE FILES

Part Five: “Trans Rights Under Fire — and Still Rising”

By RICHIE D MOWREY for The Sassy Gazette
Because existence isn’t up for debate.

They legislate our erasure.
We legislate our survival.

Across America and the world, trans lives are under attack: in courtrooms, school boards, medical offices, locker rooms, statehouses, and streets.

  • Bills banning healthcare.
  • Laws banning books.
  • Policies banning pronouns.

But here’s the part they didn’t plan for:
We are still here. Still fighting. Still rising.

FILE 001: The War on Our Bodies

It’s not a misunderstanding. It’s a strategy.

Right now, dozens of states are pushing bills that:

  • Ban gender-affirming healthcare for minors and adults.
  • Criminalize parents who support their trans children.
  • Force teachers to misgender students.
  • Ban trans people from public bathrooms, sports teams, and even clinics.

This isn’t about protecting anyone. It’s about legislating people out of existence.

FILE 002: The "Save the Children" Lie

Every moral panic needs a new villain.

Once it was gay teachers. Now it’s trans youth.

The strategy:

  • Invent a fake threat.
  • Whip voters into fear.
  • Pass brutal laws under the guise of "protection."

They claim to “save children” by:

  • Denying healthcare.
  • Outing them to unsafe parents.
  • Banning supportive books and therapy.

They don’t want to protect trans kids.
They want to erase them.

FILE 003: Healthcare Isn’t Optional

For trans people, healthcare is survival.

Denying hormone therapy, surgeries, or affirming mental healthcare isn’t “debate.” It’s slow-motion genocide.

  • 82% of trans youth consider suicide after being denied care.
  • 50% of trans adults face discrimination at hospitals.
  • Several states are trying to criminalize doctors who provide lifesaving treatments.

Imagine needing antibiotics and being told it’s a "lifestyle choice."
That’s the reality trans people face daily.

FILE 004: Rising Anyway

Despite the hate:

  • More trans people are running for office.
  • More trans authors are publishing books.
  • More communities are fighting back with lawsuits — and winning.
  • More allies are refusing to stay silent.

Trans resilience isn’t new.
It’s ancient. It’s sacred. And it’s unstoppable.

We carry the legacy of Marsha, Sylvia, Miss Major, and millions more — people who dared to live loudly even when laws were written to silence them.

CLOSING ARGUMENT:

You can ban books.
You can strip healthcare.
You can pass hateful laws.

You cannot legislate away our existence.
You cannot vote away our humanity.
You cannot erase a people who have already survived everything you threw at them.

We are not a debate topic.
We are not a punchline.
We are not going anywhere.

We are trans.
We are proud.
We are permanent.
